Intro- In the beginning

Call me simple or romantic or a dreamer but I believed that if given a chance I could build a small cottage for free from natural and recycled materials. I did give myself a budget because I realized that avoiding cost altogether would be difficult so we set out to prove that we could do it for under $3000. Ill say this now that saving money is the easy part, its time that you really need! We juggled life and a whole lot of labor and five summers later Cedar Fern is finally complete. So many people have said that we need to share our story. The issue is while living out the story you either build or write but you cant do both. So, now I write to share and encourage others who feel the need to do something natural, to shape earth and break the molds of conformity. Our project was built from materials on hand and shaped by the location and environment. Its design is intelligent and not random.
